Clothes and laundry as a 3D travel object in the Packliste style

When you can wash clothes during a trip, the interval between washes matters more than the total trip length. Count only on laundry you have checked: a rental washing machine is less useful if you cannot use it when needed or the clothes are still wet.

Check four details first

How many nights are you staying, and who is travelling?

After how many days can you reliably wash?

How long will clothes take to dry?

What spare do you need for delays or extra changes?

Ask the accommodation about the machine, charges, detergent, drying rack and available days. Clothes unsuitable for a dryer need time and space to hang. Rain or high humidity may make an extra dry change useful.

Example: seven nights, washing after four days

For your own plan, you could allow four days before washing plus one spare day: five changes per person for daily-change items. For two adults and one child, that would mean 15 changes of underwear in total. This is an openly explained planning example, not a washing rule calculated by the tool. Adjust it for actual needs and drying time.

The clothing calculator displays the app’s starting quantities from people and nights. It has no washing-day or spare controls. Seven nights produce seven T-shirts, seven underwear entries and seven pairs of socks per person, plus one pair of trousers and one sleepwear set. Its basis stops increasing at 14 nights; beyond that, laundry or reuse is assumed. It does not automatically cover every calendar day, weather condition or activity.

Compare those starting quantities with your laundry plan and change individual amounts yourself. Trousers, shirts and warm layers have different change frequencies. Review sportswear, wet clothes and special occasions separately. Clothes worn on the journey can count towards your planned sets.

Adjust for children and activities

Young children may need more than one change a day. Choose a suitable spare and increase individual quantities if you expect extra changes. If you swim and hike on the same day, consider wet and dirty clothes separately. An evening shirt is only a spare while it stays clean and dry.

The family holiday list and beach list provide useful additional categories. For baby supplies, the diaper calculator helps with quantity planning.

Keep the spare available

Pack your chosen spare separately from dirty laundry. Avoid using it as an extra outfit choice on the first evening. Replan if a wash is delayed. Increase the interval until the next wash in your own plan and review the quantities again.

From calculation to a saved list

The web tool runs independently from the app, processes entries in your browser and does not save a trip. Copy its output and add the quantities you need to your app list yourself; there is no automatic import. Packliste can also create a starting list from trip details, which you edit afterwards. The first list is free. See features for further details.

Tips

  • Check drying, detergent and available washing times too.
  • Keep your chosen spare dry and available.
  • Adjust starting quantities yourself to your actual washing plan.
