Ten lines in a notes app may be enough for a weekend away. If you already maintain a checklist that works, you can keep it. Packliste is most useful when you want trip details to produce a starting list and suitable quantities.

What a notes app handles well

You write freely, add links and check off your own list. Apple Notes supports sharing notes through iCloud. Apple explains the requirements for collaborating in Notes. This works when you already know what to pack and want to assemble the content yourself. Other notes apps vary; check their sharing and offline settings.

What Packliste adds

Packliste starts from trip templates or its assistant. Destination, dates, accommodation, travellers and activities help build a base. Quantities are taken into account where useful. You then edit categories, entries and quantities and add your own things.

Your question Notes app Packliste
Do I already have a list? Keep using your own checklist Add your own entries or start with a template
Do I need trip suggestions? Research the content yourself Assistant and ten trip templates
Are people and dates changing? Recalculate quantities yourself Trip details as a starting point, editable quantities afterwards
Can we check off together? For example, a shared Apple note through iCloud Shared packing list; inviter needs Premium, guests pack free
What does it cost? Depends on the app and plan First list free, Premium as a one-time purchase

Example: a weekend becomes a family holiday

Your note lists two shirts, a toothbrush and a charging cable. Seven nights with a child need a new quantity plan, extra clothes and accommodation supplies. You can rebuild the note yourself. In Packliste you enter the new trip and review the suggestions. Either way, you decide whether an item belongs in your luggage.

The clothing calculator shows starting quantities from travellers and nights. Account for laundry yourself. It does not create a saved app list or import anything automatically. Copy the results as a starting point. For organising with others, read packing together.

If you stay with Notes

Split documents, clothes, toiletries, technology and accommodation into short sections. Put quantities in the line, such as “Socks: 5 pairs”. Separate shared equipment from personal items and agree on one current version. After returning, remove unused items and add what was missing.

If you want to try Packliste

Try the free first list for a real upcoming trip. See whether the suggestions save work and whether you enjoy checking off in the app. Multiple lists, sharing, PDF export and further features need Premium. Check the features page for requirements. If you prefer paper, app or PDF helps you decide.

Tips

  • Keep a note if it already covers your needs well.
  • Write quantities in the line instead of guessing while packing.
  • Review extra suggestions before adding them to your list.
