What really keeps you warm on the lift when the wind whistles over the saddle? The answer lies in the thin layers under the jacket: thermal underwear and fleece hold more than a single thick sweater. Wet ski socks end a good day on the slope faster than any snowstorm.
Ski equipment, clothing, sun protection, warmth and first aid form the base. In the app the destination, the duration, the people coming along and the lodging come on top.
The list below helps you check. In the app you match it to the ski area, the trip length and the travel group. The first list is free and needs no Packliste account.
Your own equipment or a rental
The biggest difference in a ski packing list is the question of what you bring and what you rent on site. Skis or a snowboard, boots, poles and a helmet can sit at home, in the rental shop or partly in both places. Reserve the sizes you need in good time and note the pick-up in your trip preparations. That way you do not haul anything twice and you are not standing there without a boot that fits on the first morning.
With your own equipment, check bindings, edges and condition early. For safety-relevant settings, a specialist workshop is the right place to go. The ski pass, course bookings and lodging details should be within reach, not in the deepest pocket of your luggage.
Plan clothing in layers
On the slope, effort, wind and temperature keep changing. A functional base layer, a warming layer and a weatherproof outer layer can be adjusted better than one very thick piece. Gloves, ski socks, a neck warmer and goggles get wet quickly; depending on the duration and your options for drying things, a spare can make sense.
Sun protection belongs on the list even in the cold. Altitude, reflection and time outdoors matter more than how it feels on your skin. Choose products and protection according to your own needs and the manufacturer’s notes.
Think about the lodging and the journey
A hotel usually provides towels and bed linen, a vacation rental not always. A ski room or a heated drying room also changes how much spare clothing you need. If you drive, vehicle equipment and the current rules along the route come on top. Check those officially for the countries and regions you are driving through.
Packliste separates personal clothing from things used together and matches quantities to the travel group and the duration. After that you can remove rented equipment, add your own gear and check the finished list off while you load the car.

Tips
- Before you leave, find out what your rental shop actually provides. Skis, boots, poles, helmet and goggles can be part of a package or cost extra.
- Think about sun protection in the cold too. Altitude and reflecting snow can raise the UV exposure on the slope.
- On the slope, several thin layers work better than one thick sweater. Thermal underwear plus fleece under the ski jacket is far easier to adjust on the lift and in the evening.
- Pack at least a second pair of ski socks. Then you can change a damp pair before you step back into the boots.
- A thermos with a warm drink is practical if you want your break to be independent of the next mountain hut. In hard frost, heat pads can help as well.
Frequently asked questions
- What belongs on every ski packing list?
- A ski pass, goggles, warm layers and sun protection are a solid base. Clarify beforehand what the rental shop provides and what you have to bring yourself.
- How does a ski packing list differ from one for camping or the beach?
- On a ski trip, warm layers, protective equipment and the line between your own and rented gear are what count. That sets the list clearly apart from camping or the beach.
- Can I adapt the list to my own ski trip?
- Yes. In the app you can change entries and quantities, hide categories and add equipment of your own.
