A vacation rental feels like a home for a while, until the first evening shows what is missing: no coffee in the tin, no dish towel on the hook, and the question of whether the towels were included in the price after all.
Kitchen, cleaning, clothing, toiletries and entertainment are a good starting point. In the app you match the list to the lodging, the people, the trip length and your plans.
The list below helps you check. For your own trip, Packliste puts together entries and quantities that fit. The first list is free and needs no Packliste account.
Read the description of the fittings first
With a vacation rental packing list, the lodging matters more than the destination. Bed linen, towels, a hairdryer, a coffee machine and the basics in the kitchen can be included, cost extra or be missing entirely. Read the description and ask about anything unclear. What matters is not only whether there is a coffee machine, but which kind of coffee it needs.
Consumables are rarely handled consistently either. Sometimes dish soap, trash bags and a first roll of toilet paper are waiting, sometimes the house starts out practically empty. For a late arrival, a small starter set pays off. You can buy the rest locally instead of carrying supplies for the whole stay.
Plan the kitchen and cleaning realistically
Before packing, think about how often you really want to cook. Anyone eating out every evening does not need half a spice drawer. Anyone cooking for a group, on the other hand, should check whether pots, pans and knives come in suitable sizes. A familiar peeler is nice; a missing large pot can genuinely change the evening you had planned.
For cleaning and laundry, two questions help: is there a washing machine, and what is expected when you leave? Detergent, dish towels or cleaning supplies follow from that. Go by the house rules of the owner instead of bringing everything just in case.
Split the luggage between shared and personal
Bed linen, towels and clothing depend on the people and the duration. Kitchen basics, games, charging adapters and cleaning kit are usually needed only once by the group. Agree beforehand who packs the shared things. A shared list keeps every person from bringing coffee while nobody thinks of trash bags.
Also pack a small arrival bag: booking details, key instructions, water, a charger and everything for the first night. Then you do not have to open every bag after a long drive. In Packliste you can match the vacation rental template to the fittings, the group and the length of the stay, and add the quirks of your house permanently.

Tips
- Check the booking or ask the host whether bed linen and towels are provided. That differs from one vacation rental to the next.
- Pack a basic set of food for the first evening: coffee, something to cook, oil and spices. The kitchen in a vacation rental is fitted out, but rarely stocked, unlike a hotel.
- Find out which cleaning supplies and dish towels are there. A final clean does not automatically mean that everything for daily use is ready for you.
- Bring a few trash bags for the first evening and read up on how waste is separated locally.
- Put books or a card game in for the evenings if you would rather not depend on the television or a stable internet connection.
Frequently asked questions
- What belongs on every vacation rental packing list?
- First clarify whether bed linen and towels are provided. Basic food for the first evening and a small cleaning set are often helpful. The rest depends on how the house is fitted out.
- How does a vacation rental packing list differ from one for camping or a motorhome?
- In a vacation rental the kitchen and the beds are there, but what they contain is not always the same. So compare bed linen, towels, food and cleaning supplies against your booking.
- Can I adapt the list to my own vacation rental?
- Yes. In the app you can change entries and quantities, hide categories and add anything that is missing.
