How do you get a six-meter caravan backwards onto a narrow pitch without half the site watching? Cranking the steadies, leveling, making it fast: anyone who has practiced that beforehand in an empty parking lot arrives noticeably calmer.
The vehicle check, water and waste, camping gear, kitchen and safety form the base. In the app the car and caravan, the travel group, the duration and the plans come on top.
The list below helps you check. In the app you match it to the caravan, the travel group and the duration. The first list is free and needs no Packliste account.
Check the car and the caravan separately
With a caravan it is not enough to pack the inside. The towing vehicle, the coupling and the caravan have to be prepared as one unit. Papers, vehicle-specific checks, required safety equipment and permitted weights depend on the particular model and on the route. Use handbooks, a specialist workshop and current official rules for that, not a general packing list.
Inside, loose objects have to be stowed safely. Heavy things belong in suitable low places, cupboard doors and windows get closed. Nose weight, total weight and their distribution are safety-relevant and have to suit the car and caravan together.
Think ahead to setting up at the pitch
Everything for the first few minutes should be reachable: wheel chocks, the crank, leveling blocks, the power connection and, if you have one, the mover. If those things lie under bedding and camping furniture, every set-up starts with repacking. Decide the order once and pack accordingly.
Check beforehand which connections and supply the site offers. A water hose, waste-water canister, cable reel and adapter have to match. For gas and electrical installations, the manufacturer’s requirements and professional checks apply. A checklist helps you remember, but it does not replace a technical inspection.
Share out the group luggage clearly
Kitchen, camping furniture, tools and games are usually needed only once per travel group. Clothing, towels and personal things are planned per person. If you arrive in several vehicles, write down where the shared accessories are carried. A shared list makes that responsibility visible.
Packliste starts from its own caravan template instead of a general camping list. You add the fittings of your caravan, match quantities to people and duration, and can save a short departure routine as a category of your own.

Tips
- Practice reversing once in an empty parking lot before the first pitch with an audience. A few meters in reverse are more relaxed when nobody is watching you do it for the first time.
- Put the wheel chocks under the wheels before you crank the corner steadies down. Otherwise the caravan wobbles with every step inside, and the steadies come loose faster than you would think.
- Secure the uncoupled caravan with the hitch lock, even during a short break.
- If your caravan has a mover, check its function and its battery before the trip. That helps above all on narrow pitches.
- Check the gas bottle and the tire pressure of the caravan before you set off, not after the first hundred kilometers. From the car in front you barely notice either one.
Frequently asked questions
- What belongs on every caravan packing list?
- Vehicle documents, a hitch lock, the gas supply and wheel chocks are part of the base. The rest depends on the size of the caravan, its fittings and the pitch.
- How does a caravan packing list differ from one for a motorhome?
- A caravan is uncoupled at the pitch, leveled and secured. That is why corner steadies, wheel chocks and the hitch lock sit further up than they do for a motorhome.
- Can I adapt the list to my own caravan?
- Yes. In the app you can change entries and quantities, hide categories and add whatever is particular to your car and caravan.
